Buttons Wears His Velvet ...

“Any glimpse into the life of an animal quickens our own and makes it so much the larger and better in every way.”

             ~ John Muir

                  ~ 1838 ~1914

My favorite yearling ~ Buttons, as I call him ~ shows off his velvet as the eight point buck enjoys a beautiful summer evening in August at Trexler Memorial Park, Allentown, Pennsylvania.

I began photographing Buttons as a precious white-spotted fawn, then a sweet button buck and then a beautiful yearling, until he migrated away in January 2020. Along the way I tossed him many apples, which he loved eating. It’s a true joy and blessing to me personally and as a photographer to have watched this white-tailed deer grow.

Velvet Twilight ...

Nestled in the milkweed, a majestic yearling ~ a nine-point buck ~ shows off his velvet antlers as a summer twilight falls across Trexler Memorial Park, Allentown, Pennsylvania, on a beautiful late July evening.

Summer Velvet ...

“The soul that sees beauty may sometimes walk alone.”
                 ~ Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

The afternoon light dances on the velvet antlers of this majestic yearling on an August day at Lehigh Parkway, Allentown, Pennsylvania.

I was happily surprised to see this young white-tailed deer buck so early in the day, as he posed for a few photos before continuing to follow a beautiful doe down the summer path.
