A Corner Of History ...

“I love the nostalgic myself. I hope we never lose some of the things of the past.”

    ~ Walt Disney

     ~ 1901 ~ 1966

The historic Hotel Belvidere, built in 1831, in the scenic town of Belvidere, New Jersey on a beautiful mid-October afternoon. I presented the image in sepia to enhance the nostalgic mood.

This frame establishment on the corner of Front and Hardwick Streets was originally built as a store and dwelling in 1831 by Chapman Warner, uncle of S. T. Scranton. It was known as “Belvidere House” and the corner room, which became a bar room, was the store portion. Mr. Warner also kept a lumberyard in connection with its store, now “Hotel Belvidere,” which has been recently refurbished with hardwood floors, tumbled marble bathrooms with traditional furnishings and modern amenities. It is family-owned & operated.

A Delaware River Town, Belvidere, one of my very favorite places, was established April 7, 1845 and is a charming Victorian town located on the banks of the Pequest and Delaware Rivers. The town’s name means “beautiful to see” in Italian.

George Washington traveled through Belvidere at 10 a.m. July 26, 1782 on his way to camp at Morristown.

Morning On The Delaware ...

“Let us cross over the river, and rest in the shade of the trees.”

   ~ Stonewall Jackson

   ~ 1824 ~ 1863

The last words of Thomas Jonathan “Stonewall” Jackson, who served as a Confederate general (1861-1863) during the Civil War, and became arguably the best-known Confederate commander after General Robert E. Lee. Jackson played a prominent role in nearly all military engagements in the Eastern Theater of the war until his death, and had an important part in winning many significant battles.

The serenity of a beautiful mid-October morning reflects in the Delaware River, showcasing autumn’s splendor in this shot I captured overlooking the river that straddles New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

This view was from the Riverton-Belvidere Toll Supported Bridge, my vantage point on this picture perfect morning.

The bridge, which opened in 1904, links Belvidere, New Jersey and Riverton, Pennsylvania.

A Delaware River Town, Belvidere, one of my very favorite places, was established April 7, 1845 and is a charming Victorian town located on the banks of the Pequest and Delaware Rivers. The town’s name means “beautiful to see” in Italian.

Riverton is part of Pennsylvania’s Slate Belt.

Pequest Autumn ...

“But memory is an autumn leaf that murmurs a while in the wind and then is heard no more.”

     ~ Khalil Gibran

     ~ 1883 ~ 1931

The reflection of autumn leaves colorfully cascades across the Pequest River as it flows through the middle of town in Belvidere, New Jersey, a Delaware River Town, on a perfect Indian Summer afternoon in early November.

The Pequest ~ Native American for “open land” ~ is a tributary of the Delaware River. It tumbles down to Belvidere in a series of falls, where it meets the Delaware.

Belvidere, one of my very favorite places, is a charming, Victorian town located on the banks of the Pequest and Delaware Rivers.

Wheels Up! ...

  “Wheels Up!”

~ Wheels Up is a colloquial term for the takeoff of an aircraft, occasionally applied to other vehicles.

It’s Wheels Up as a bicycle seems perched to be a sky rider in the blue summer sky at Cycle Funattic on an early July afternoon on in the downtown of historic Phillipsburg, New Jersey.

Phillipsburg, a Delaware River Town, was established March 8, 1861 and named for William Phillips, an early settler of the area.

Established in 1998, Cycle Funattic is located in a turn of the century building on South Main Street. For more information visit https://www.cyclefunattic.com/.

Fall's Full Swing At Walter's Park ...

“Some of the days in November carry the whole memory of summer as a fire opal carries the color of moon rise.”

              ~ Gladys Taber

                ~ 1899-1980

~author of 59 books, including the Stillmeadow books, & columnist for Ladies’ Home Journal & Family Circle

Surrounded by the brilliant fall foliage of early November, the swings at Walter’s Park, Phillipsburg, New Jersey stir memories of summer fun on a beautiful autumn afternoon.

Yet who says swings are just for warm weather? Not me!

The picturesque Walter’s Park is home to a pool, pavilion, picnic areas, half-mile walking track, basketball court, fitness equipment, play pieces for ages 2 to 12, baseball field, soccer/football field and tennis courts.

The current swimming pool, built in 1955, is set to be replaced in 2022.

Cut, Color And Roll ...

“ … Well I said shake, rattle and roll
I said shake, rattle and roll …”
                        “Shake, Rattle and Roll”
~ written in 1954 by Jesse Stone (1901-1999) under his assumed songwriting name Charles E. Calhoun
~ recorded by the great Elvis Presley
                             ~1956

Strolling through Belvidere, New Jersey on a rare warm February afternoon, I came across this cool sign for Dee’s Doos Hair Salon. Elvis Presley sang about “Shake, Rattle and Roll,” but at Dee’s I believe the slogan would be “Cut, Color and Roll!”

Belvidere, one of my very favorite places, is a charming Victorian town located on the banks of the Pequest and Delaware Rivers.
