Just Moseying Along ...

“It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.”
                        ~ Confucius
                             551-479 BC
A late September evening marked the first time I spotted a turtle along the Ironton Rail Trail, taking its own sweet time moseying toward the creek.

The Ironton Rail Trail loops more than nine miles through Whitehall Township, the Borough of Coplay and North Whitehall Township in Pennsylvania.

The Ironton Railroad was a shortline railroad in Lehigh County. Originally built in 1861 to haul iron ore and limestone to blast furnaces along the Lehigh River, traffic later shifted to carrying Portland Cement when local iron mining declined in the early 20th century. Much of the railroad had already been abandoned when it became part of Conrail in 1976, and the last of its trackage was removed in 1984.

In 1996, Whitehall Township purchased 9.2 miles of the right-of-way from Conrail, transforming it into the Ironton Rail Trail.

Running On Winter ...

“What’s in store for me in the direction I don’t take?”
               ~ Jack Kerouac
                     ~ 1922-1969
Spring is just around the corner and winter is waning, but there is still snow on the ground from a mid-March blizzard as runners dash up a hill at Trexler Memorial Park, Allentown, Pennsylvania.

You'll Never Walk Alone ...

“When you walk through a storm hold your head up high
And don’t be afraid of the dark.
At the end of the storm is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark.
Walk on through the wind,
Walk on through the rain,
Tho’ your dreams be tossed and blown.
Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart
And you’ll never walk alone,
You’ll never, ever walk alone.

Walk on, walk on with hope in our heart
And you’ll never walk alone,
You’ll never, ever walk alone.”
              ~ “You’ll Never Walk Alone”
             ~show tune from the 1945
Rodgers & Hammerstein musical “Carousel”
~ recorded by the great Elvis Presley
                                                      ~ 1967

“At the end of the storm is a golden sky…” These lyrics from the beautiful and inspiring  “You’ll Never Walk Alone” came to mind when I saw this gorgeous sunset at the close of a stormy summer day in August at Trexler Memorial Park, Allentown, Pennsylvania.
