A Whisper Of Autumn In August ...

“And all at once, summer collapsed into fall.”

           ~ Oscar Wilde

             ~ 1854 ~ 1900

Though summer, my most favorite of seasons, is still in full bloom on the sun dappled trail, the scattered leaves whisper of the autumn to come on a beautiful mid-August afternoon along the Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor (D&L Trail) in Laurys Station, North Whitehall Township, Pennsylvania.

I captured this shot after setting out from The Cove Road Trailhead, which is near a Lehigh River Water Trail access point at Treichler’s Bridge. The trail is part of the Asher F. Boyer Eagle Trail section of the D&L.

Running from Wilkes-Barre to Bristol, the D&L Trail passes through the Lehigh and Delaware Rivers and their canals in Pennsylvania.

Blue Moon Risin' ...

“Yes, I am a dreamer,

For a dreamer is one

Who can find history by

Moonlight, and see the

Dawn before the rest of the world.”

 ~ Oscar Wilde

 ~1854-1900

A rare full Halloween Blue Hunter’s Moon rises October 31, 2020 over Cedar Creek Parkway, Allentown, Pennsylvania.

October 2020 had two full moons: the full Harvest Moon October 1 and the full Hunter’s Moon October 31.

The second full moon in a month is referred to as a Blue Moon. Typically, the next moon after the harvest moon is known as a Hunter’s Moon – when hunters used moonlight to hunt prey and prepare for winter.

The last full moon seen in all U.S. time zones on Halloween occurred in 1944 and won’t happen again until 2039.

An Early Fall ...

“And all at once, summer collapsed into fall.”

Beautiful goldenrod sways in the gentle late August breeze, a sure sign of an early fall along the Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor (D&L Trail) at Lehigh Gap on a waning summer afternoon.

In the shadow of the Kittatinny Ridge, also called Blue Mountain, the Lehigh Gap in Slatington, Pennsylvania, is a crossroads where the Lehigh Gap Nature Center’s trails connect two historic trails – the Appalachian Trail and the D&L Trail.

The Appalachian Trail, a foot path, follows the ridge on both sides of the Lehigh Gap, running 1,245 miles south to Georgia and 930 miles north to Maine. Running from Wilkes-Barre to Bristol, the D&L Trail passes through the Lehigh and Delaware rivers and their canals in Pennsylvania.

Goldenrod is the state flower of Kentucky (adopted 1926) and Nebraska (adopted 1895) and was recently named the state wildflower of South Carolina.
