Light In October ...

“Knowing not grieving remembers a thousand savage and lonely streets.”
                ~ William Faulkner
               ~ 1867-1962
~ one of my favorite authors, Southern American author and Nobel Prize Laureate
                 ~ “Light In August”
                        ~ 1932
I loved the way the late day October sun illuminates this small, lonely tree on a beautiful autumn day along the Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor (D&L Trail) at Lehigh Gap.

In the shadow of the Kittatinny Ridge, also called Blue Mountain, the Lehigh Gap in Slatington, Pennsylvania, is a crossroads where the Lehigh Gap Nature Center’s trails connect two historic trails – the Appalachian Trail and the Delaware and the D&L Trail.

The Appalachian Trail, a foot path, follows the ridge on both sides of the Lehigh Gap, running 1,245 miles south to Georgia and 930 miles north to Maine. Running from Wilkes-Barre to Bristol, the D&L Trail passes through the Lehigh and Delaware rivers and their canals in Pennsylvania.

The Gilding ...

"Winter is an etching, spring a watercolor, summer an oil painting

and autumn a mosaic of them all."

                                       ~ Stanley Horowitz

Some moments are golden, as when this man and his dog enjoy
a sunkissed Indian Summer afternoon on a path decorated with
gilded autumn leaves along the Saucon Rail Trail, Hellertown, Pennsylvania.

Dreams Come To Light ...

"Like the seeds dreaming beneath the snow
your heart dreams of spring."
                                       ~ Kahlil Gibran, "The Prophet"
                                                             ~ 1883-1931

scene at Trexler Memorial Park, Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Mist Of The Autumn Morn ...

"I saw old autumn in
the misty morn
stand, shadowless like silence,
listening to silence."
                     ~ Thomas Hood
                                  ~ 1799-1845

There is something so very special about the early morning, the
serenity, the quiet beauty. This feeling of a fresh new day is palpable
as the mist rises just after sunrise on a beautiful, chilly October
morning at Wehr's Dam, Orefield, Pennsylvania.

The historic dam, awash with the waters of the Jordan Creek, was built in 1904
and is the perfect complement  next to Wehr's Covered Bridge, built in 1841.

Spring Dance ...

Daffodil, Jonquil, Narcissus ... whatever name you choose,

Fire Of The Frost ...

"It is the life of the crystal,
 the architect of the flake,
 the fire of the frost,
 the soul of the sunbeam,
This crisp winter air is full of it."
                             ~ John Burroughs
                                   ~ 1837-1921
                               ~ "Winter Sunshine"
                                                    ~ 1875

An artistic view of leaves frozen in a chunk of ice in January at Wehr's Covered Bridge Park, Orefield, Pennsylvania reminded me of the line penned by John Burroughs.

Winter Inspiration

"Even if I knew that tommorrow the world would go to pieces,
I would still plant my apple tree."
                                         ~ Martin Luther

Jerusalem Western Salisbury Church, Allentown, Pennsylvania, is an
inspiring sight in the late day sun on a recent winter afternoon. This
quintessential country church was founded in 1741.

Crystal Blue Persuasion ...

"Better get ready to see the light,
Love, love is the answer,
Ooh, ooh and that's all right."
                                        ~ "Crystal Blue Persuasion"

Leaves frozen in this chunk of ice recently at Wehr's Covered Bridge Park,
Orefield, Pennsylvania brought to mind the 1969 song originally recorded
by Tommy James and the Shondells, composed by Eddie Gray,
Tommy James and Mike Vale.

Gold Paint

"The substance of painting is light." ~ Andre Derain

The melted snow paints itself across the path in the afternoon sunshine this
week at Trexler Memorial Park, Allentown, Pennsylvania.
