“Teaching a child not to step on a
caterpillar is as valuable to the child as it is to the caterpillar.”
~ Bradley Millar
A Woolly Bear caterpillar – larvae of the
Isabella Tiger Moth – is touched with the morning dew on a beautiful late
October day at Trexler Memorial Park, Allentown, Pennsylvania.
In describing the legend of the Woolly Bear
caterpillar predicting the severity of the coming winter, The Old Farmer’s
Almanac states the Woolly Bear caterpillar has 13 distinct
segments of either rusty brown or black. The wider the rusty brown sections (or
the more brown segments there are), the milder the coming winter will be. The
more black there is, the more severe the winter.
