Autumn In Dixie ...
“I
was born and raised on a Carolina sea island and I carried the sunshine of the
low-country, inked in dark gold, on my back and shoulders.”
~ Pat Conroy
~ 1945-2016
Autumn’s
colors dance with Spanish Moss in the Dixieland breeze on a sunlit October day
in the Lowcountry of Beaufort County, South Carolina.
The
Legend of the Spanish Moss
The
story says that Gorez Goz, a bearded Spanish villain, journeyed to our shores
and spied a beautiful Indian maid. He bought her for a yard of braid and a
little bar of soap.
The
Indian maid was so afraid of this bearded beast that she fled cover over the hill
and glade with him in pursuit. Tiring, she climbed to the top of a tree, with
the Spaniard close behind. She dove from the tree to the stream below. The
villian’s beard and whiskers became entangled in the branches holding him back
while she got away.
Gorez
Goz’s life was at a loss, but his beard lives on as dangling Spanish Moss!

Fording A Spring Morn ...
"Joy comes in the morning."
~ Psalm 30:5
God's creation renders a soft spring morning
at Trexler Nature Preserve, Schnecksville, Pennsylvania as an adorable dog splashes at the ford of the Jordan Creek.
This serene image paints why this is one of my
very favorite places to be and to photograph,
and radiates the words of Psalm 30:5, "Joy comes in the morning."

January On The Jordan ...
"I saw that my life was a vast glowing empty
page and I could do anything I wanted."
~ Jack Kerouac
~ 1922-1969
The light of approaching sunset dances and glows on the icy waters of the Jordan Creek at
Trexler Nature Preserve, Schnecksville,
Pennsylvania on a gorgeous winter day.
This view of the flowing creek speaks to
me of following your dreams, possibilities,
and the inspiriting words of Jack Kerouac.
I captured this scene soon after the historic
January Blizzard of 2016. In a winter shorn
of snow until the blizzard, the storm plonked
31 inches of snow on nearby Allentown
in a 24 hour period.

Jersey Autumntide ...
"Autumn burned brightly, a running flame through the mountains, a torch flung to the trees."
~ author Faith Baldwin
~ 1893-1978
A beautiful pop of autumn color blazes brightly in the hilly terrain of historic Phillipsburg, New Jersey overlooking The Northampton Street Bridge as viewed from across the Delaware River in Easton, Pennsylvania at a November sunset.
The Northampton Street Bridge - commonly called The Free Bridge - that spans
the states was completed in 1896 and survived massive flooding from Hurricane Diane in 1955. It underwent a thorough restoration in 1990 and is one of my very favorite places to photograph.

Shouldering The October Sky ...
"Quiet thoughts come floating down
And settle softly to the ground
Like golden autumn leaves around my feet
I touched them and they burst apart with sweet memories ..."
~ "Memories"
~ Recorded by the great
Elvis Presley
~ 1968
A peaceful silence whispers of quiet thoughts and sweet memories
at a place where the trees seem to shoulder the October sky
at Trexler Nature Preserve, Schnecksville, Pennsylvania.

Sittin' On Top Of The World ...
"Such a feelin's comin' over me
There is wonder in most everything I see
Not a cloud in the sky, got the sun in my eyes
And I won't be surprised if it's a dream...
I'm on the top of the world lookin' down on creation
And the only explanation I can find
Is the love that I've found ever since you've been around
Your love's put me at the top of the world."
~ "Top Of The World"
~ recorded by The Carpenters
~ 1972
Take a seat on top of the world
and soak in the autumn vista
on a beautiful October day at
Trexler Nature Preserve, Schnecksville, Pennsylvania.

A Summer Place ...
"There's a summer place ..."
~ "Theme From A Summer Place"
~ 1959
You can almost hear the strains of "Theme From A Summer Place" on a perfect August evening at Manassas Guth Covered Bridge, South Whitehall Township, Pennsylvania.
The historic wooden bridge that crosses the Jordan Creek was constructed in 1858 and rebuilt in 1882. It is a 108-foot long Burr Truss bridge with vertical siding. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

It's Only A Paper Moon?...
"It is only a paper moon ...
It is only a canvas sky ...
But it wouldn't be make-believe if
You believe in me."
~ "It's Only A Paper Moon"
~ written by Harold Arlen
lyrics by E.Y. Harburg & Billy Rose
1933
The supermoon of August 10, 2014 -
the largest full moon of the year -
rises in beauty at Trexler Memorial Park,
Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Deep Purple Dreams ...
"When the deep purple falls ...
through the mist of a memory
you wander back to me ...
here in my deep purple dreams."
~ "Deep Purple"
~ composed by Peter DeRose, 1933
~ lyrics by Mitchell Parish, 1938

like deep purple dreams at
Trexler Memorial Park, Allentown, Pennsylvania.
