Whitetail Winterlude ...

“Nature is not a place to visit. It is home.”
              ~ Gary Snyder
              ~ born 1930
~ Pulitzer Prize winner for Poetry, 1975
My favorite white-tailed deer doe, at right, and her fawn – now almost a yearling – pose for a mother-daughter winter portrait on a February evening at home in the park.

I’ve been blessed to photograph this doe and her fawns since 2012, and it’s a true joy to me personally and as a photographer.

Don't Fence Me In ...

“Oh, give me land, lots of land under starry skies above
Don’t fence me in
Let me ride through the wide open country that I love
Don’t fence me in
Let me be by myself in the evenin’ breeze
And listen to the murmur of the cottonwood trees
Send me off forever but I ask you please
Don’t fence me in …”
   ~ “Don’t Fence Me In”
~ popular American song written in 1934, with music by Cole Porter and lyrics by Robert Fletcher and Cole Porter. Members of the Western Writers of America chose it as one of the Top 100 Western songs of all time. The song was recorded by artists including Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, Bing Crosby, Kate Smith and Ella Fitzgerald.

Bright-Eyed And Bushy-Tailed ...

“All good things are wild and free.”
           ~ Henry David Thoreau
              ~ 1817-1862
Bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, this sweet white-tailed deer fawn is quite alert as she grazes on a gorgeous July evening in the park with her mama doe closeby.
