Wisp Of A Summer Morn ...

“Many a forenoon have I stolen away, preferring to spend thus the most valued part of the day; for I was rich, if not in money, in sunny hours and summer days, and spent them lavishly; nor do I regret that I did not waste more of them in the workshop or the teacher’s desk.”

                       ~ Henry David Thoreau
                                  ~ 1817-1862
                            ~ “Walden”
                 ~originally published August 9, 1854

To me, there’s nothing so beautiful in nature as a summer morning, and Thoreau’s words seamlessly flow through this image of milkweed basking in the morning sun that I shot on a brilliant August day at Trexler Nature Preserve, Schnecksville, Pennsylvania.

If we all had more sunny hours and summer days, how much richer – and happier – we’d all be.

Natural Tenderness ...

"One touch of nature makes
the whole world kin."
                         ~ William Shakespeare
                                        ~ 1564-1616

My favorite white-tailed deer doe and her
sweet fawn are seen in a tender moment
that is nature's version of a mother-daughter
portrait on a summer evening in the park.

I've been blessed to photograph this doe
and her fawns since 2012, and it's a
true joy to me personally and as a photographer.

The Sweetest Sight ...

"Take a look at what surrounds you.
You'll find natural wonders
at every turn."
                      ~ Author Unknown

My favorite white-tailed deer doe
and her sweet fawn seemingly pose
for mother-daughter portrait
on a summer evening in the park.

I've been blessed to photograph this doe
and her fawns since 2012, and it's a true
joy to me personally and
as a photographer.

Butterfly And Company ...

"Butterflies are self-propelled flowers."
                   ~ Robert Heinlein
                            ~ 1907-1988

Beautiful Eastern Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly alights on the thistle as a bee is already enjoying the nectar on a sweet summer day at Trexler Nature Preserve, Schnecksville, Pennsylvania.

The Magic Of Ordinary Days ...

"Simple days bring simple joys ..."
                              ~ Emily Lawless
                                              ~ 1845-1913
The sweet morning light of summer dances and shimmers into beautiful bokeh around a buddleia flower on the banks of the Jordan Creek at Trexler Nature Preserve, Schnecksville, Pennsylvania ...
the magic of ordinary days.

Dallying In Summer ...

"Teaching a child not to step
on a caterpillar is as valuable
to the child as it is to the caterpillar."
                             ~ Bradley Millar

The first Hickory Tussock Moth Caterpillar I've ever seen dallies on on August afternoon along the Plainfield Township Recreation Trail near the Stockertown (Belfast Junction), Pennsylvania portion of this rail trail.

Lovin' Spoonful ...

"If you want to go quickly,
go alone,
If you want to go far,
go together."
                         ~African Proverb

Beautiful white-tailed deer doe receives a spoonful of love in a sweet nudge from her white spotted fawn during a precious moment captured on a summer evening in the park.

I've been blessed to photograph this doe and her fawns for more than three years, and it's a true joy to me personally and as a photographer.

Saturday Night Lights ...

"When I admire the wonders of a sunset
or the beauty of the moon, my soul expands
in the worship of the creator."
                                                       ~ Mahatma Gandhi
                                                                           ~ 1869-1948

A stunning  summer sunset echoes and shimmers on a Saturday evening across
Leaser Lake in the shadow of the northern Blue Mountain Ridge,
New Tripoli, Pennsylvania.

The lake's namesake is Frederick Leaser, who in September 1777
with his farm team hauled The Liberty Bell from Philadelphia
to Allentown where it was concealed in Zion Reformed Church.

His homestead is located one mile north of the lake.

Follow That Dream ...

"I've got to follow that dream wherever that dream may lead
I've got to follow that dream to find the love I need ...

But when a dream is calling you,
There's just one thing that you can do

Well, you gotta follow that dream wherever that dream may lead
You gotta follow that dream to find the love you need

Keep a-movin, move along, keep a moving ..."
                         ~ "Follow That Dream"
~    from the 1962 musical film
                     "Follow That Dream"
~recorded by the great Elvis Presley

This Slinky follows it's dream to spring toward the rolling hills of Trexler Nature Preserve, Schnecksville, Pennsylvania
on a beautiful summer day, a great reminder to always follow that dream!

Slinky is a toy, a precompressed helical spring invented and developed by naval engineer Richard T. James in 1943.

Sweet Summer Morn ...

"Who made the mountains,
who made the trees
Who made the rivers flow to the sea
And who sends the rain when the earth is dry
Somebody bigger than you and I ..."

~ "Somebody Bigger Than You And I"
~ Written by Johnny Lange, Hy Heath & Sonny Burke

~ Recorded by the great Elvis Presley
                                             ~ 1967

God's handiwork creates a sweet and perfect summer morning at Trexler Nature Preserve, Schnecksville, Pennsylvania.

The serenity is palpable as an adorable beagle splashes near the ford of the Jordan Creek, the only other sound the chirping of birds.

This image paints why this is one of my very favorite places to be and to photograph, and epitomizes the words of my most favorite Gospel hymn, the beautiful "Somebody Bigger Than You and I," recorded by the great Elvis Presley in 1967.

Chasing The Turtle Drum ...

"Dance along the silver sands and beat the turtle drum,
that youth may last forever, and sorrow never come."

                                                             ~ "Beat The Turtle Drum"
                                                                       ~ Constance C. Greene
                                                                                            ~ 1994

Simple childhood joy paints the faces of children
anticipating a vehicle fording the Jordan Creek
at Trexler Nature Preserve, Schnecksville, Pennsylvania
on a summer's day.

For more than 50 years kids and kids at heart have enjoyed
driving through the creek - and watching too!

Sweet Dreams Of Youth ...

"Dream no small dreams ..."
                                     ~ Victor Hugo
                                                          ~ 1802-1885

This sweet white-tailed deer fawn will grow to be
a proud buck one day. But on this August evening
grazing in the park he had only to dream of what will be.

I've been blessed to photograph this fawn's mother doe
and her fawns for more than two years, and it's a true joy
for me personally and as a photographer.

A Country Red ...

"In summer, the song sings itself."
                                      ~ William Carlos Williams
                                                    1883-1963

Geiger's Covered Bridge paints a pop of red
to the country landscape in North Whitehall Township, Pennsylvania
 on a picturesque summer day.

The bridge is an historic wooden covered bridge. It is a
112-foot long Burr Truss bridge, constructed in 1860.
It has vertical plank siding and an entry portal of
stepped square planks. It crosses the Jordan Creek
and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places
in 1980. It can be accessed from The Covered Bridge Trail
of the Trexler Nature Preserve, Schnecksville, Pennsylvania.

A Simple Peace ...

"I found the poems in the field
and only wrote them down."
                             ~ John Clare
                                          ~ 1793-1864

The words of the English poet John Clare came to life
to me when I photographed this scene just before sunset. It
was a waning summer evening just off the Ironton Rail Trail,
Whitehall, Pennsylvania, with the chirp of crickets and the
soft coo of a mourning dove the only sounds filling the air ...
a simple peace and a beautiful reminder to me of why
I love nature photography.

Neon Spin ...

"Colors must fit together as pieces in a puzzle
or cogs in a wheel."
                                       ~ Hans Hofmann
                                                       1880-1966

The ferris wheel lights up a summer night with spinning neon this week
at the 162nd Great Allentown Fair, Allentown, Pennsylvania.

The Eyes Of Love ...

Beautiful white-tailed deer doe casts a watchful, loving
eye on her fawn. Someday this sweet fawn will be
a proud buck, but on this late summer evening in
the park he was happy grazing with his mother.

I've been blessed to photograph this doe and
her fawns for more than two years, and it's a
real joy!

A Summer Place ...

"There's a summer place ..."
~ "Theme From A Summer Place"
                                      ~   1959

You can almost hear the strains of "Theme From A Summer Place" on a perfect August evening at Manassas Guth Covered Bridge, South Whitehall Township, Pennsylvania.

The historic wooden bridge that crosses the Jordan Creek was constructed in 1858 and rebuilt in 1882. It is a 108-foot long Burr Truss bridge with vertical siding. It was placed on the  National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Fawn In The Waning Summer ...

This beautiful white-tailed deer fawn will one day
be a proud buck, but now he enjoys a waning
summer evening in the park.
I've been blessed to photography this fawn's
mama doe and her fawns for more than two years,
and it's a joy!

Let The Sun Shine In ...

"This is the dawning of the age of Aquarius ...
Let the sun shine in
Open up your heart and let it
shine on in ..."
                       ~ "Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In"
                                           ~ "Hair"
                                                     ~ 1967

When I saw these almost magical sunflares
just before sunset at Trexler Memorial Park,
Allentown, Pennsylvania, I thought of the song
"Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In." I shot this
just a little while before the Supermoon in August.
