Someday I'll Sing ...

“Who made the flowers to bloom in the spring
Who made the song for the robins to sing
And who hung the moon in the starry sky
Somebody bigger than you and I ...
~ “Somebody Bigger Than You and I”
~ written by Johnny Lange, Hy Heath & Sonny Burke
~ recorded by the great Elvis Presley
                          ~ 1967

I spotted this sweet robin fledgling in the grass on an early June evening in Lehigh Parkway, Allentown, Pennsylvania, reminding me of the line in my most favorite Gospel hymn, the beautiful “Somebody Bigger Than You and I,” recorded by the great Elvis Presley in 1967.

Someday this little fledgling will sing the song God made for the robins to sing … and sing beautifully!

Hope Is The Thing ...

“Hope” is the thing with feathers –
That perches in the soul –
And sings the tune without words –
And never stops at all."
~ “Hope Is The Thing With Feathers”
                            ~ Emily Dickinson
                                   ~ 1830-1886

A large white feather that has landed on a tree trunk billows in the breeze on a rare warm February day at Lehigh Parkway, Allentown, Pennsylvania in this high contrast monochrome shot, a reminder that hope is always in the wind and appears where you may least expect it.

Shilly-Shally ...

"If you never did you should.
These things are fun. And fun is good."
                   ~ Dr. Seuss
                         (Theodore Seuss Geisel)
                                      ~ 1904-1991

This sweet little girl could heed these words of Dr. Seuss  as she seems to shilly-shally and dilly-dally over whether to give her hula hoop a whirl in this candid capture on a chilly April day at Lehigh Parkway, Allentown, Pennsylvania.

The hula hoop is a toy hoop that is twirled around the waist, limbs or neck. The modern hula hoop
was invented in 1958 by Arthur K. "Spud" Melin and Richard Knerr, but children and adults around the world have played with hoops, twirling, rolling and throwing them throughout history.

Dancing In The Mirror ...

"There are two ways of spreading light:
to be the candle or the mirror
that reflects it."
                    ~ Edith Wharton
                                   ~ 1862-1937

The light of a waning winter sunset
dances as it is mirrored in the waters
spilling over a crest of the
Little Lehigh Creek in Lehigh Parkway,
Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Blanketing Bogert's Bridge ...

"Stillness is the flower of winter,
all hope waits beneath a blanket of white."
                                     ~ Author Unknown

Snow blankets the historic Bogert's Covered Bridge, on which sunset shadows dance
on a still January day in Lehigh Parkway,
Allentown, Pennsylvania.

I stood knee deep in snow taking this shot a
few days after the historic Blizzard of 2016,
the peaceful scene in stark contrast to
the recent storm.

In a winter shorn of snow until the blizzard,
the storm plonked  31 inches of snow on
Allentown in a 24 hour period.

Bogert’s Covered Bridge spans 145 feet over the Little Lehigh Creek in Lehigh Parkway.

Built in 1841, it’s history traces back to the mid-1700s when the Bogert family moved into a log cabin next to the future site of the bridge. It is the oldest covered bridge in Lehigh County and among the oldest in the country. It is open only to pedestrian and bicycle traffic, as well as the occasional rider on horseback.

Bogert’s  Covered Bridge is a wooden Burr Truss bridge with vertical plank siding and a gable roof. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Music Of The Forest ...

"In the forest no tree grows straight.
But they all reach up towards
the light and the goodness in life."
                                          ~ Native American Proverb

As I was walking the trails of Lehigh Parkway, Allentown, Pennsylvania
on an October day, I heard the beautiful strains of "Amazing Grace"
floating through the air. I looked up and saw this man playing the
Gospel hymn on his Native American flute.

Whistlin' Dixie ...

"... In Dixie's Land, where I was born in,
early on one frosty mornin'...
I wish I was in Dixie ...
Away, away, away down South in Dixie!"
                              ~ "Dixie" ("Dixie's Land")

Striking up a banjo and fiddle on a sun
streaked summer's day, this couple fills the air with the sweet sounds of Dixieland.

I loved hearing these wonderful tunes echo
through Lehigh Parkway, Allentown,
Pennsylvania as I snapped this
candid scene.

Perhaps they are wistfully thinking of home as
their music makes the summer even sweeter.

Color Tide ...

"First the tide rushes in
Plants a kiss on the shore ...
So I rush to your side
Like the incoming tide ..."

                                     ~ "Ebb Tide"
                                                      ~ Carl Sigman, lyricist
                                                      ~ Robert Maxwell, composer
                                                                              ~ 1953

The morning sun sweeps and swirls the colors of
October like a dream in a crest of the
Little Lehigh Creek, Lehigh Parkway, Allentown, Pennsylvania.
