Spring Comes Softly To Wehr's Dam ...

“Springtime is the land awakening. The March winds are the morning yawn.”

        ~ Lewis Grizzard

          ~ 1946 ~ 1994

~ American writer & humorist, known for his Southern demeanor & commentary on the American South.

Hints of the golden hour pirouette on the waters of the Jordan Creek as they spill over Wehr’s Dam in this painterly, HDR image I shot as moody March skies and a windy day ushered in the first day of spring March 20, 2022.

A pair of snow geese can be seen at left on the Jordan Creek, which continues to then flow beneath Wehr’s Covered Bridge at Covered Bridge Park, Orefield, Pennsylvania.

The dam, built in 1904, is next to Wehr’s Covered Bridge, which dates back to 1841.

The boardwalk of the Jordan Creek Greenway can be seen behind the dam.

Grackle On Green Waters ...

“In order to see birds it is necessary to become part of the silence.”

           ~ Robert Wilson Lynd

            ~ 1879 ~ 1949

~ Irish writer, editor of poetry, urbane literary essayist & strong Irish nationalist

A common grackle soaks up the beauty of late spring perched in the waters of the Jordan Creek, which reflects the green trees of early June, on a beautiful evening at Trexler Nature Preserve, Schnecksville, Pennsylvania. Grackles are members of the blackbird family.

Gold As Ice ...

“I embrace the abstract in photography and exist on a few bits of order extracted from the chaos of reality.”

            ~ Ralph Gibson

                 ~ American art photographer

                       ~ born 1939

The golden hues of a winter sunset fuse with the ice flecking the Jordan Creek in this abstract image.

I shot this on a late January day along the Jordan Creek Greenway at Covered Bridge Park, Orefield, Pennsylvania.
