Apple Of The Yearling's Eye ...

A beautiful white-tailed deer yearling ~ who has recently lost the velvet on his antlers ~ eyes the apple I tossed him, which he then enjoyed eating under the evening sun on a warm late September day at Trexler Memorial Park, Allentown, Pennsylvania.

          ~ popular song by Harry M. Woods (1896-1970), now considered a standard. It has been recorded by many artists, but is probably best known in a 1953 recording by Kay Star. Woods was a Tin Pan Alley songwriter & pianist. He composed his songs on piano, despite the fact that he was born without fingers on his left hand.

My favorite yearling pauses to pose on a late spring evening just before an early June sunset in the park.

I began photographing Buttons, as I call him, as a precious white-spotted fawn, then a sweet button buck and now a beautiful yearling, tossing him many apples, which he loves eating, along the way. It’s a true joy and blessing to me personally and as a photographer to watch this white-tailed deer grow.
