Happy Trails ...

“Happy trails to you, until we meet again.
Happy trails to you, keep smilin’ until then.
Who cares about the clouds when we’re together?
Just sing a song and bring the sunny weather.
Happy trails to you, ‘till we meet again.

Some trails are happy ones,
Others are blue.
It’s the way you ride the trail that counts,
Here’s a happy one for you.

Happy trails to you, until we meet again.
Happy trails to you, keep smilin’ until then.
Who cares about the clouds when we’re together?
Just sing a song and bring the sunny weather.

Happy trails to you, till me meet again.”
               “Happy Trails”
                     ~ by Dale Evans
  ~ theme song for the 1940s & 1950s
radio program & the 1950s television show
starring Roy Rogers & Dale Evans

It’s a tale – or perhaps tail – of the trail as this cute little dog enjoys autumn along the Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor (D&L Trail) riding on this man’s back as he pedals his bicycle through a beautiful October afternoon at Lehigh Gap.

In the shadow of the Kittatinny Ridge, also called Blue Mountain, the Lehigh Gap in Slatington, Pennsylvania, is a crossroads where the Lehigh Gap Nature Center’s trails connect two historic trails – the Appalachian Trail and the D&L Trail.

The Appalachian Trail, a foot path, follows the ridge on both sides of the Lehigh Gap, running 1,245 miles south to Georgia and 930 miles north to Maine. Running from Wilkes-Barre to Bristol, the D&L Trail passes through the Lehigh and Delaware rivers and their canals in Pennsylvania.

The Heart Of Summer ...

“And you’re daddy’s little girl
You’re the end of the rainbow
My pot of gold
You’re daddy’s little girl to have and hold
A precious gem is what you are
You’re mommy’s bright and shining star
You’re the spirit of Christmas
My star on the tree
You’re the Easter Bunny to mommy and me
You’re sugar
You’re spice
You’re everything nice
And you’re daddy’s little girl.”
                      ~ “Daddy’s Little Girl”
~ lyrics & music written by

                                     ~ 1906
~ recorded by the wonderful Al Martino

The heart of summer within the heart of summer … a father teaches his little girl to ride a bicycle on a gorgeous July afternoon on the Saucon Rail Trail, Hellertown, Pennsylvania, such a sweet sight I was lucky to capture and showcase in sepia to enhance the nostalgic feel.

In The Pink Of Spring ...

“In the spring, at the end of the day,
you should smell like dirt.”
                           ~ Margaret Atwood
                                        ~ born 1939

I spotted this pink bicycle left near a tree at the Springhouse of Trexler Memorial Park, Allentown, Pennsylvania as sunset knocked on the door of a picturesque April day. No doubt the bike’s owner was off exploring the beauty of the outdoors … in the pink of spring.

The log cabin close to the bicycle was part of Springhouse, the summer home of General Harry C. Trexler (1854-1933), an American industrialist who built a business empire in Allentown. The park is his namesake.
