Trail Sugar ...

“And into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul.”
                   ~ John Muir
                           ~ 1838-1914

Sunset is knocking on the door of a winter day on a serene, snow sugared stretch of the Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor (D&L Trail) close to the Slatington Trailhead in Slatington, Pennsylvania.

Running from Wilkes-Barre to Bristol, the D&L Trail passes through the Lehigh and Delaware rivers and their canals in Pennsylvania.

Slatington, established in 1864, is the designated Blackboard Capital of America.

Lush Summer ...

“I felt like lying down by the side of the trail and remembering it all ...”

                        ~ Jack Kerouac
                                 ~ 1922-1969

All seasons have their own special beauty, yet I have to say I’ve always been a summer person.
And what more could anyone who loves summer ask for than a quintessential summer evening – verdant, lush and warm – just before sunset on the Saucon Rail Trail, Hellertown, Pennsylvania.

It’s the perfect, sun-dappled place for dreaming and remembrance … a place that seems to paintbrush the words of Jack Kerouac, “I felt like lying down by the side of the trail and remembering it all …”

Soliloquy With A Friend ...

"The language of friendship
is not words but meanings."
                                ~ Henry David Thoreau
                                                  ~ 1817-1862

A man and his dog enjoy friendship, solitude
and the crisp winter air while running on
the Covered Bridge Trail at Trexler Nature Preserve,
Schnecksville, Pennsylvania.

Into The Woods ...

"Pursue some path, however narrow and crooked,
in which you can walk with love and reverence."
                        ~Henry David Thoreau
                                              1817-1862

The trail takes on a moody beauty on a cloudy evening
in early June at Wehr's Covered Bridge Park,
Orefield, Pennsylvania.

A Winter's Trail ...

"Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference."
                  ~ "The Road Not Taken,"
                                                      ~ Robert Frost

Walking the wintry trail today at Lehigh Parkway, Allentown, Pennsylvania
brought to mind the famous words of Robert Frost in "The Road Not Taken."

Gilded Canopy

"Autumn ... the year's last, loveliest smile."
                                             ~ William Cullen Bryant
                                                                              ~1794-1878

Gilded autumn leaves create a canopy this morning at one of my favorite spots on the Saucon Rail Trail, Hellertown, Pennsylvania.

Road To Brigadoon ...

"Brigadoon, Brigadoon, blooming under sable skies. Brigadoon, Brigadoon,
There my heart forever lies. Let the world grow cold around us, let the heavens cry above! Brigadoon, Brigadoon, in thy valley, there'll be love!"
                                       ~ "Brigadoon," Lerner & Loewe, 1947

As the morning light dapples on the path this weekend at Trexler Memorial Park, Allentown, Pennsylvania, it seems as though it could be the road to Brigadoon!
