This Is Elvis Country ...

“Well, it’s one for the money
Two for the show
Three to get ready
Now go, cat go

But don’t you
Step on my blue suede shoes
You can do anything
But stay off of my blue suede shoes …”

           ~  “Blue Suede Shoes”
~ Written & recorded by Carl Perkins
                           ~ 1955
~ Recorded by the great Elvis Presley
                             ~ 1956

There’s a cool slice of Elvis country tucked into Charlotte Fay’s Main Street Diner, Slatington, Pennsylvania, as showcased in this poster on the diner’s wall promoting Elvis Presley’s August 10-11, 1956 appearance at the Florida Theatre in Jacksonville, Florida.

Elvis Presley’s “Blue Suede Shoes” may well be one of the hits you hear playing at Charlotte Fay’s, where retro is king at this cool and cozy eatery.

The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll is well represented at Charlotte Fay’s, joined by photos showcasing retro icons such as Elizabeth Taylor and James Dean in the 1956 film “Giant,” Marilyn Monroe, Route 66, and a young Elvis and Johnny Cash posing for a snapshot. There’s also a nod to the New Jersey Seashore and Steel Pier. The large map behind Elvis depicts President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s National System of Interstate and Defense Highways, championed by the then-president when it was formed June 29, 1956.

And of course there’s the tasty food, wonderful to nosh on as you drink in the nostalgic atmosphere. Owner Jason Ruff named the diner after both his great-grandmothers, and uses their recipes.

The menu and atmosphere are the perfect mix to stir up a recipe for success fit for a king.

Autumn Moonrise ...

“... I wanna go and bounce the moon
Just like a toy balloon…

You make me feel so young
You make me feel there are songs to be sung
And bells to be rung
And a wonderful fling to be flung …”

~ “You Make Me Feel So Young”
~ 1946 popular song composed by
Josef Myrow, lyrics by Mack Gordon
~ recorded by the wonderful Frank Sinatra
                              ~ 1956
The rising moon of a beautiful mid-November evening indeed looks the size of a toy balloon you could bounce over the Central Range of Trexler Nature Preserve, Schnecksville, Pennsylvania.

The Blue Moon Hops ...

“Blue moon, blue moon, blue moon
Keep shining bright,
Blue moon, keep on shining bright
You’re gonna bring me back my baby tonight,
Blue moon, keep shining bright.

I said Blue Moon of Kentucky
keep on shining …”
                                ~ “Blue Moon of Kentucky”
~ recorded by the great Elvis Presley
                                             ~ 1954
The Blue Moon Brewing Company helps keep spirits shining bright at the 10th annual Blues, Brews & Barbecue in downtown Allentown, Pennsylvania June 10, 2017 … a tad before summer but a great way to kick off the season with the sounds of the blues & the taste of brews and barbecue!

I blended a street scene photo I shot at the festival of a Blue Moon beer truck with a Blue Moon I captured shining over Cedar Creek Parkway, Allentown on July 31, 2015.

A Blue Moon is defined as any time there is a second full moon in a calendar month, according to NASA. The next will occur January 2, 2018.

“Blue Moon of Kentucky” is the official Bluegrass song of Kentucky, written by Bill Monroe, “The Father of Bluegrass,” in 1946.

The great Elvis Presley – an artist who occurs “once in a blue moon,” – recorded his fantastic rockabilly version in 1954.
