Painting Dixie ...

“Oh, I wish I was in the land of cotton
Old times they are not forgotten
Look away, look away, look away Dixieland
Oh I wish I was in Dixie, away, away

In Dixieland I take my stand to live and die in Dixie
For Dixieland, that’s where I was born
Early Lord one frosty morn
Look away, look away, look away Dixieland

Glory, glory hallelujah
Glory, glory hallelujah
Glory, glory hallelujah
His truth is marching on …”

          ~ “An American Trilogy”
~ songwriters Don Reedman, Nick Patrick and Robin Smith
~ recorded by the great Elvis Presley,
                                                ~1972

The light of a southern fall sunset softly sweeps through the Spanish Moss and reflects in the lagoon, painting a serene Dixieland evening in the Lowcountry of Beaufort County, South Carolina.

Peering Into The Looking Glass ...

"Alice had begun to think that very few things
indeed were really impossible."
                  ~ Lewis Carroll
                              ~1832-1898
        ~"Alice's Adventures in Wonderland"
                               ~ 1865

New York City streetscapes reflect in an
advertisement for the Disney film
"Alice Through the Looking Glass"
on an April day in Lower Manhattan.

Reflection and Remembrance ...

"No day shall erase you
from the memory of time."
                ~ Virgil
                          ~ 70 B.C. - 19 B.C.

A portion of the new Oculus sculpture that tops the World Trade Center Transportation Hub joins with other nearby buildings in Lower Manhattan in reflecting on an outside wall of the National September 11 Memorial Museum on a picturesque April day in New York City.

The sculpture is the creation of Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava.

The Virgil quote has been fashioned out of salvaged remnants of damaged World Trade Center steel and is located in Memorial Hall inside the museum, where it will stand in perpetuity at the site of the attacks as a promise that we will never forget those taken from us on that terrible day.

A River Runs Through It ...

"But memory is an autumn leaf that
murmurs a while in the wind
and then is heard no more."
                   ~ Khalil Gibran
                                 ~ 1883-1931

Leaves frame the autumn colors cascading across the Pequest River as it flows through the middle of town in Belvidere, New Jersey on a perfect Indian Summer day in November.

Belvidere, one of my very favorite places,
is a charming, Victorian town located on the
banks of the Pequest and Delaware Rivers.

Coquette ...

"In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different."

                    ~ Coco Chanel

                         ~1883-1971

Beautiful mute swan strikes a coquettish pose while gliding along Lake Muhlenberg on a sunlit, chilly spring morning at Cedar Creek Parkway, Allentown, Pennsylvania.

In The Early Morning Mist ...

"...There are pale yellow mornings, when the mist burns slowly into day,
the air stings like autumn ..."
                     ~ Robert Hass
                       ~ born 1941
~ Poet Laureate of the United States
                              ~    1995-1997

The mist rises poetically soon after sunrise on a brisk and beautiful October morning near the ford of the Jordan Creek, one of my very favorite places to be and to photograph, at Trexler Nature Preserve, Schnecksville, Pennsylvania.

The Art Of Nostalgia ...

"We do not remember days, we remember moments."
                                                  ~ Cesare Pavese
                                                                 ~ 1908-1950

Afternoon shadows of the early spring dance
tranquilly in the April sunlight at Schlicher Covered Bridge,
an historic wooden covered bridge in North Whitehall Township,
Pennsylvania. Schlicher's is a 108-foot-long, Burr Truss bridge
that crosses the Jordan Creek and was constructed in 1882.
It has vertical plank siding and a gable roof. It was placed on the
National Register of Historic Places in 1980. It recently reopened
after needed renovations.

Mist Of The Autumn Morn ...

"I saw old autumn in
the misty morn
stand, shadowless like silence,
listening to silence."
                     ~ Thomas Hood
                                  ~ 1799-1845

There is something so very special about the early morning, the
serenity, the quiet beauty. This feeling of a fresh new day is palpable
as the mist rises just after sunrise on a beautiful, chilly October
morning at Wehr's Dam, Orefield, Pennsylvania.

The historic dam, awash with the waters of the Jordan Creek, was built in 1904
and is the perfect complement  next to Wehr's Covered Bridge, built in 1841.

All You Need Is Love ...

"... All you need is love, love
Love is all you need."
                           ~ Lennon & McCartney
                                               1967

You can just hear the Beatles singing their great song
when seeing the simple joys of childhood
and family love in focus in this candid shot
on Memorial Day at Wehr's Dam, Orefield, Pennsylvania.

Good Morning, Robin Hood Dell

"For in the dew of little things
the heart finds morning
and is refreshed."
                          ~ Kahlil Gibran

A beautiful April morning at Robin Hood Dell, Lehigh Parkway,
Allentown, Pennsylvania.
