Summer Evening At Bogert's Bridge ...

“Simplicity is the glory of expression.”
                          ~ Walt Whitman
                                     ~ 1819-1892

One of the sweet, simple joys of summer is savoring a beautiful July evening at the historic Bogert’s Covered Bridge in Lehigh Parkway, Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Bogert’s Covered Bridge spans 145 feet over the Little Lehigh Creek.

Built in 1841, its history traces back to the mid-1700s when the Bogert family moved into a log cabin next to the future site of the bridge. It is the oldest covered bridge in Lehigh County and among the oldest in the country. It is open only to pedestrian and bicycle traffic, as well as the occasional rider on horseback.

Bogert’s Covered Bridge is a wooden Burr Truss bridge with vertical plank siding and a gable roof. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Coca-Cola Corner ...

“Everyone is entitled to his own nostalgia.”

Summer, Americana and Coca-Cola go together like mom, Chevrolet and apple pie, as seen on an early September afternoon at Chantilly Goods and Weissport Washboard in historic Weissport, Pennsylvania.

Chantilly Goods is an old fashion ice cream parlor, vintage soda fountain and candy shoppe. Walking into this old time soda shoppe is like stepping back in time into a 1920s and 1930s soda fountain.

Inside and outside, it’s a wonderful scoop of Americana, a real vintage gem … with sprinkles on top!

Chantilly Goods is located near the Weissport Trailhead of the Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor (D&L Trail) and rents surreys (multiple-person bikes) to ride on the trail.

Running from Wilkes-Barre to Bristol, the D&L Trail passes through the Lehigh and Delaware rivers and their canals in Pennsylvania.
