Saturday Night At The Roxy ...

“I adore the theater and I am a painter. I think the two are made for a marriage of love.
I will give all my soul to prove this once more.”
                      ~ Marc Chagall
                                ~ 1887-1985
~ on painting new ceiling for the Paris opera
                                ~ October 14, 1963

A crowd teems around The Roxy Theatre, Northampton, Pennsylvania to purchase their tickets to a Saturday night show on a warm May evening.

The Roxy originally opened in 1921 as the Lyric. This theatre was renovated in 1933 in the tremendously popular art deco style - and renamed The Roxy after the famous New York City theater and its namesake showman Samuel “Roxy” Rothapfel.

Today, as the city’s only commercial theatre, “the Roxy continues to be the greatest show in town,” presenting both Hollywood favorites and live entertainment. It features a seven rank Wurlitzer pipe organ.

Peace On The Hillside ...

"There will be peace in the valley for me, some day
There will be peace in the valley for me, oh Lord I pray
There'll be no sadness, no sorrow
No trouble, trouble I see
There will be peace in the valley for me, for me."

                     ~ "Peace In The Valley"
~ Written by Thomas A. Dorsey
                                        ~ 1937
~ Recorded by the great Elvis Presley
                                        ~ 1957

Bright wild yellow mustard brushes a soft peace on a sun-filled May afternoon on a hillside of the Central Range of the Trexler Nature Preserve, Schnecksville, Pennsylvania, the only sounds the rustling of the spring breeze and the coo of a mourning dove. Perfect.

The color yellow is often associated with peace and happiness.

To me, this scene illustrates the still and serene beauty of God’s creation painted in that beautiful Gospel hymn “Peace in the Valley,” recorded by the great Elvis Presley in 1957.

Art Without Borders ...

"Art is a collaboration between God and the artist, and the less the artist does the better."
                       ~ Andre Gide
                              ~ 1869-1951

The sky's the limit for creativity at the 30th annual Mayfair Festival of the Arts, held each Memorial Day weekend in Allentown, Pennsylvania since 1986.

This is my creative spin on one of the Mayfair signs at the art and music festival site this year at The Allentown Fairgrounds.

Fording A Spring Morn ...

"Joy comes in the morning."
                            ~ Psalm 30:5

God's creation renders a soft spring morning
at Trexler Nature Preserve, Schnecksville, Pennsylvania as an adorable dog splashes at the ford of the Jordan Creek.

This serene image paints why this is one of my
very favorite places to be and to photograph,
and radiates the words of Psalm 30:5, "Joy comes in the morning."

Plein Air Printemps ...

"Art is the stored honey
of the human soul."
                     ~ Theodore Dreiser
                                     ~ 1871-1945

Plein Air painter catches the nature of a sweet

Dance Of The Dogwood ...

                               "Legend Of The Dogwood"
                                                ~

At the time of the crucifixion, the dogwood had reached the size of the mighty oak tree. So strong and firm was the wood that it was chosen as the timber for Jesus' cross.

To be used for such a cruel purpose greatly distressed the dogwood. While nailed upon it, Jesus sensed this, and in his compassion said, “Because of your pity for my suffering, never again shall the dogwood tree grow large enough to be used for a cross. Henceforth, it shall be slender, bent, and twisted, and its blossoms shall be in the form of a cross – two long and two short petals.

"In the center of the outer edge of each petal will be the print of nails. In the center of the flower, stained with blood, will be a crown of thorns so that all who see it will remember."
