Turkey Vultures And The Big Blue Sky ...

“Better have as king a vulture advised by swans
Than a swan advised by vultures.”
                                   ~ Panchatantra

A pair of turkey vultures in their treetop perch are seen against the bright blue spring sky as an April sunset approaches along the Ironton Rail Trail.

I often see many groups of perched turkey vultures in the same group of trees along the trail near sundown.

The trail loops more than nine miles through Whitehall Township, the Borough of Coplay and North Whitehall Township in Pennsylvania.

The Dance ...

"Ballet in the air ...
twin butterflies
until, twice white
they meet, they
mate."
                        ~ Matsuo Basho
                                      ~ 1644-1694
                                                    ~ Japanese Haiku

Mating white butterflies seem to do a delicate dance
alighted on a leaf along the Ironton Rail Trail,
Whitehall, Pennsylvania on a June evening.

A Simple Peace ...

"I found the poems in the field
and only wrote them down."
                             ~ John Clare
                                          ~ 1793-1864

The words of the English poet John Clare came to life
to me when I photographed this scene just before sunset. It
was a waning summer evening just off the Ironton Rail Trail,
Whitehall, Pennsylvania, with the chirp of crickets and the
soft coo of a mourning dove the only sounds filling the air ...
a simple peace and a beautiful reminder to me of why
I love nature photography.

Here We Come ...

"Here we come ... we're the young generation,
and we've got something to say ..."
                          ~ "Theme from The Monkees"
                                                         ~1966

A whimsical view of two adorable white-tailed deer
fawns as they ran out of the thicket to greet a June
sunset just off the Ironton Rail Trail, North Whitehall
Township, Pennsylvania.

Sunday In The Country ...

"Do not let Sunday be taken from you.
If your soul has no Sunday, it becomes
an orphan."
                        ~ Albert Schweitzer
                                                    1875-1965

I saw this rural scene on an early summer Sunday
afternoon from the Ironton Rail Trail, which loops more than
nine miles through Whitehall Township, the Borough of Coplay and
North Whitehall Township, Pennsylvania.
The corridor was originally home to the
Ironton Railroad 1860-1984.
